Just days before being gunned down outside his Marathon Clothing store in South L.A., Nipsey Hussle recorded a video with DJ Khaled and John Legend for the Khaled track, “Higher,” which will appear on his upcoming album “Father of Asahd.” The video was filmed on top of a parking structure that was rented out in nearby Inglewood.
TMZ has released a first look at that music video, which is Nipsey Hussle’s last project before he died.
RIP Nipsey Hussle
When Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot, John Legend took to Twitter to pay his respects: “RIP Nipsey. I just spent Thursday with him filming a video for a beautiful new song we created with Khaled. We filmed in Inglewood, close to where he grew up. He was so gifted, so proud of his home, so invested in his community. Utterly stunned that he’s gone so soon.”
Legend was right; the song is beautiful, and it definitely slaps. The video looks like it’ll have interesting visuals. Nipsey is outfitted in a fly head-to-toe blue suit, and Legend is at a grand piano next to classic cars with hydraulic suspensions.
DJ Khaled is Donating Proceeds to Nipsey’s Children
In a statement from DJ Khaled, he said, “Recently, I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in a million years. It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner, and my friend, Nipsey Hussle.”
“Just days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called, “Higher.” After much prayer and reflection; and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that moment with the world.”
Khaled also announced that 100% of the proceeds from this song and music video will go to Nipsey Hussle’s children, Emani and Kross Asghedom.
