Game of Thrones Fans Sign Petition to Remake Season 8

WARNING: Game of Thrones spoilers ahead!

Are you finally okay after watching Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones? I just wanted to check since it’s been a few days. But even still, NO ONE IS. Thanks, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. That was so emotionally exhausting.

I mean, especially if you’re a Daenerys fan. It kind of seems like this last episode pretty much ruined everything and abandoned 8 years of character development. 8 years of fans being invested in her fate. Understandably so, it’s not sitting so well with fans. In fact, they’re pretty pissed off.

The New Petition to Scrap Season 8

It’s not that surprising, then, that one fan out there, a Night King-loving guy named Dylan D., has started a new Change.org petition to scrap the whole thing. He’s calling for HBO to remake the entire season “with competent writers” instead of showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.

“David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e., the books) to fall back on,” Dylan writes in his petition. “This series deserves a final season that makes sense.”

“Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

Over 34,000 People Have Signed So Far

I took a peek at the petition. So, it’s only been circulating for less than a week, but lots other equally angry fans must agree with Dylan D. At the time of writing this article, there’s over 34,000 signatures!

Don’t Hold Your Breath, Though

To be clear, we all know that HBO isn’t going to scrap the whole season and do it again, right? I know we’re all pissed off, but it’s just not that simple.

HBO isn’t going to fork over another fortune to redo the whole season. Some of the Game of Thrones actors, like Lena Headey, Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, and Emilia Clarke, take home at least $500,000 per episode. On top of that, the show itself is expensive to shoot. According to several reports, season 8–which is made up of 6 episodes–had a $90 million budget. That’s roughly $15 million per episode.

Besides, “The Bells” was the most-watched episode in Game of Thrones history. Everyone might be pissed off, but they certainly tuned in. And for HBO, that’s success.
