Ikea Donates Tiny Beds to Rescue and the Cats Rejoice!

When Ikea comes to mind, you probably think of stylish, clean-cut and minimalistic apartments – but in this case, I’d say they’re trending more towards meow-listic.

Ikea’s Act of Generosity

The Ikea store located in Etobicoke, Canada made a local humane society shelter’s day by helping to ensure that the kitties in their care were able to stay comfortable while waiting to find new homes.  The shelter made this statement on their Facebook page:

“A HUGE thanks to IKEA Canada, the Etobicoke location for donating these adorable doll beds. Now the cats are elevated off the cold, hard floor. Our floors are easy to clean but not terribly comfortable to lay on. Now cats like Catsby and Frankie have beds of their own to curl up in.

Not only did IKEA Canada generously donate 10 Duktig Doll Beds but they were able to give us $300 as well.

The volunteers and animals thank you. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”

Purrfectly Sized

The 10 beds were the exact number necessary to fill the shelter’s kitten room.  The Etobicoke Humane Society has been in existence for the past 25 years, and their sole purpose is to provide care and protection for the animals they take in, and to help improve their welfare.  They are a no-kill shelter that is 100% run by caring volunteers.

While the beds look absolutely purrfect for comatose cats, the Ikea Duktid bed is actually a doll bed meant for children to play with.  Regardless, it doesn’t look like these kitties are complaining!  Not only are they a great size for cats, they could also work well for other smaller pets, such as bunnies or puppies.

Check out how incredibly happy these kitties are!  If you’re interested in obtaining a “pet bed” of your own, these beds are available for only $14.99 at your own local Ikea.  They are also available for shipping from their website.

If you’re feeling especially altruistic, you can always contact your local humane society or animal rescue to see if they could use a few beds themselves, or if they have any other pressing needs that they could use a little help with.

After that, scroll down to see how happy the shelter kitties were after receiving their new Ikea beds!
